Pascal

 Started a new sculpt tonight. Pascal from Tangled. We had a really nice sculpt in the shop a month or so back and I happened to take some good photos of him. Now I will have one!!!!

Tonight I worked on him for 2 and a half hours. As you can see, the armature is very well along. Tomorrow, I'll start throwing clay on him.

EPCOT model: Helicopter terminal tower

Sorry, I don't have the process photos for this one. This was another one night scratch build, but it really took all night long! I was too tired by the end to take photos. Basically, what happened was, I drove to Hobby Lobby, bought thin plastic sheets, cut out the shapes, sanded them to a frosted finish, glued them all together and added the black lines with sharpie. It wasn't a difficult build. In fact, I was only tired at the end because I underestimated the project and started far later than I should have. It ended up looking great though!!! This was the final thing I created from scratch for the EPCOT model. The other people I worked with wanted to hide things in the model, which is all well and good, but I was satisfied knowing that my stuff, the stuff I took ownership in, was out in plain sight.

Not quite as impressive as the carnival stand, I also made two goal posts for the football stadium. It was very easy, I just cut five pieces of styrene cylinder rods, and glued them all together....

  So, right in the middle of the carnival section of the EPCOT model, there was this weird, out of place, non-descript cube. So I asked my art director what he wanted done with it (if anything). He responded "It would be nice to make it look like a structure of some kind." And thus my home scratchbuilt project begun! 

I knew I wanted to make it look like all the other surrounding carnival stands, so I quickly took a picture of the most convenient one near me with my finger next to it for size reference.  

With my finger measurements, I outlined how much shorter the new building would have to be to match the others.

Starting off with a simple cut.

I then used scotch tape to mask off where the windows would be.

I spray painted the box and let it dry. Meanwhile, I cut out what I thought would be a very close match for the roof pieces.

Tape removed, I glued everything together.

A little bit of paint and VIOLA!!!! It's done!

Here it is in it's new home. It will probably be there for the next 50 years! So, the next time you ride The People Mover at The Magic Kingdom in Florida, look for my little one night scratchbuild.

EPCOT model

I'm currently working on one of the most fun projects I've ever been given. I'm part of a group of four who have been given the task of repairing the original 1966 EPCOT model currently being displayed in the WED People mover ride.

Here are a couple of before and after shots of what I've fixed today. 

Sculptwerks booth!! Megacon 2013

Caley Hicks, Maria Clapsis and myself set up our art at Megacon this year! The booth sold over 140 prints over the three day event! Some of the more suprising sales were two of my Gummi Medallions and two 35" canvas prints of the Last Breakfast! It was an extremely fun time and If were still here next year we should definitely do it again!

Illustrator

  My friend and I are sending a show proposal to Adult Swim. I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to oil my all too rusty Illustrator skills. It's the first time I've inked and colored in years. The last time I did this Illustrator couldn't do gradients!
